The rare antique pocket watch stands with a candlestick and matchbox holder, and dates to 1895, the silver plate is in good condition for its age with only minor loss.
Stamped on the matchbox holder “A.G.Dufva N.S O” A G Dufva is one of the oldest European silversmiths.
Alex Gabriel Dufva was born in 1822 and died in 1897, he became a master craftsman and shortly after this, he opened a silver plate factory in Stockholm, which was thought to be one of the first in Sweden. “N.S.” refers to it being a nickel-silver plate.
The letter “O” is the date letter for 1895, which means it was made toward the last few years of his life.
This is an extremely rare chance to buy such an interesting and well-made piece of silver plate. Measurements are approx. 5 inches in diameter by approx. 6 inches high, it can take a watch of approx. 50 to 55mm, is a great piece and certainly adds to a pocket watch collection or single watch to have on the side or just to display for everyone to see.
