Antique mid-19th-century three-section teak campaign chest on chest with cupboard.
A wonderful, good quality example of military furniture, with flush brass campaign handles to the drawers, each with ebony escutcheons.
Possibly by Samuel Levy of London. Its styling, quality and proportions match those of Levy, which have previously been sold. The cock bead cut details to all drawer fronts certainly show this to be by a top maker of the time.
This impressive piece would have been used during long-distance military campaigns by an officer.
The three-section construction allows flexibility in its use, with the option to use just the chest on chest or fully set up with the cupboard placed on top.
Each section has its original heavy-duty iron carry handles, and the original key is present.
The interior of the cupboard is a single adjustable shelf.
The craftsmanship and build quality of the piece are exceptional, with signs of this present within the detail of the construction of the drawers and the shaped door panels.
This is a very sturdy and solid piece, made in thick teak, built to last and survive its travels across the globe.

The piece survives its years well, with age-related wear and tear as expected given the nature of the piece’s original use. Some small losses to the bottom side edges of each section as illustrated.
Feet lacking, as are the lugs under the top chest section. These have been removed during its life. These are prone to breaking off.
The cupboard has original recessed screw holes to allow it to be affixed to the top of the chest for long-term use.
