WMF antique lidded ceramic caddy or biscuit box with a rose design to the casket base, in great overall condition.
There is a hasp with a rolled thumb catch, folding over a larger ball to close the lid, “C” shaped mounted handle at the top of the casket which is attached to a stunningly designed and detailed rose-patterned outer exterior ceramic base.
Fully stamped with WMF, with slight plate loss around certain places but nothing serious for its age.
One hairline crack is present(see photo), but is well intact and structurally fine.
Made around 1910 to 1930.
WMF is the abbreviation for Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, which in English means Wurttemberg Metalware Factory. The history of this foundry is well documented. WMF was created in 1880 after the successful merger of two Wurttemberg foundries, the Geislingen factory belonging to Daniel Straub (Straub & Sohn) and the Esslingen factory of Alfred Ritter (A. Ritter & Co.).
