Antique tramp art sewing or jewellery box in lovely, untouched, and original condition. This piece is complete with a working lock and key. The stunningly designed and decorated top features a velvet section, while the rear and sides are also covered in velvet, showcasing a beautiful geometric-shaped centre section. The front of the box is complemented by brass initials that appear to be in Old English text (E Sch), adding a great sense of character and pride from its maker.
Tramp art originated between the 1870s and the 1940s, but there are no definitive records on its inception or its creators. This art form was crafted from scrap wooden boxes and furniture, as well as materials from cigar boxes and shipping crates—typical sources for the wood used in these pieces. This particular box showcases lovely geometric shapes and designs on all sides. As time goes by, pieces in this condition and style are becoming increasingly rare.
